A note on life

Portrait of woman, just the face

Life is amazing. And then it’s awful. And then it’s amazing again. And in between the amazing and awful it’s ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale through the ordinary. That’s just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it’s breathtakingly beautiful.

(L.R. Knost)

A note on life and a few reflections from the past couple of weeks.

I like organization and order and for everything to be planned and in it’s place. I like linear. I struggle with the zig zag and the up and down and the scribbles all over the place.

I would describe my childhood as a Jackson Pollock painting, all over the place. No offence to Jackson. I have therefore tried to create order in my adult life. Anything that threatens to disrupt that order throws me off course a little. Like my head starts spinning and I feel overwhelmed and uncomfortable.

There was a point last week where I wanted to cry because I was in the middle of a scribble. Everything was all over the place and I was trying to find the linear point, the part that made sense, the part that I could understand and be comfortable with. The part that would centre me.

And I was struggling in that moment to find it.

My solution of course was to be dramatic and to start thinking about giving up everything, this blog included.

I got stuck in a moment and I wanted to use that moment to throw my big girl panties up in the air and say, “That’s it, I’m done.”

Stop the presses.

It’s over.

Well hello Lisa Marie, we’re back at this point and this trigger.

What are you going to do now?

Behave the way you always have and stay stuck in a cycle or stand in the oncoming tornado and face the unknown?

This voice in our head is our “awareness” politely asking us to slow down and see the bigger picture instead of snowballing into a minor detail.

It’s like the Universe is reaching out and saying, “Here it is, take this presence of mind and show me how much you’ve grown.”

Now I’m a pretty stubborn and sometimes obstinate person BUT if nothing else all I could remember to do was go back to the basics.

And breathe. Slowly. Breathe. Deeply.

A note on life is that breath is life.

Sometimes we forget this.

And in that breath we remember that being uncomfortable is ok because it helps you grow. It helps you change. It moves you out of cycles.

A moment in time, no matter how chaotic, unnerving or uncomfortable, is just that, a moment in time.

Be in it and move through it. Don’t try to avoid it.

Because by the grace of a power that is far greater than us, it too shall pass.

Once it passes, we stand in a far greater place of wisdom, strength and faith.

And we can exhale, amen.

Blessings to you and your loved ones. Hold them tight and keep them close.

With love,

5 Simple Self-Care Hacks for 2021

Woman happy in nature at sunset

Last year sent major shock waves through our lives, affecting us in big and small ways and possibly even in ways we don’t even understand yet.

As we enter into full 2021 mode we know that our journey is not yet done. There is still much to learn and it has never been more important to look at our own needs – emotional, mental, physical and spiritual.

Practicing self-care is important in tough times AND at all times. If anything 2020 highlighted this for us.

Trying new wellness trends can help us get to a place of happiness and health.

Here are five simple ways to embrace self-care this year:

Tending to Our Mental Health

This will remain a top priority. Physical contact and connection is so important to our health but we have been forced by this pandemic to isolate, quarantine and social distance causing our anxiety levels to increase.

We have therefore transitioned into a virtual world of meditation apps, affirmation apps, breathwork classes online, phone counseling, telehealth therapy and other online mental health services.

When faced with everyday issues we have been given a chance to use these resources and see that they are effective, necessary and helpful.

There are many more mental health support groups online than ever before. If you can’t reach out to family or friends, try going the virtual route. Help is just a finger tap away.

Boosting Our Immunity

The popularity of immune-boosting supplements, herbs and superfoods reached new heights in 2020.

Strengthening the immune system will continue to be a major 2021 wellness trend across the board, from food to supplements and educational classes.

A good starting point would be a Vitamin C, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin C supplement.

Other major trends will be energy healing and gut health.

Growing awareness of the effect that our gut microbiome has on our overall well-being, immunity, and brain function will also make cultivating good gut health a priority. (Stay tuned for a gut health series coming soon)

A variety of plants inside a home
A return to nature

Renewed Interest in Nature

In response to more time spent in the home people have increased their interest in nature.

Design trends show more people investing in plants to create indoor gardens.

Plants help clean the air and provide a sense of companionship. We all know that not only do we have to water and care for our plants but we also need to talk to them positively to help them grow, right?

If you are looking for an indoor plant to purify the air with minimal maintenance from you, try the peace lily or monther-in-laws tongue.

New Workout Habits

Wellness is now being defined by both virtual and in-person experiences.

More and more people are joining live-stream workouts at least once a week and even more are seeking out pre-recorded fitness videos.

I, personally, am using Youtube more than ever to find a variety of workouts from yoga to HIIT.

We are all forming new workout habits. Even outdoor areas such as parks (when open) are becoming more popular for walks.

Technology Boundaries

Technology boundaries are becoming the new normal. Screen time is being monitored and regulated.

Self-care trend forecasting shows that screen fatigue and technology burnout are real.

We’re seeing the effects of blue light and screen time on our eye health, mental health, sleep cycles, and more.

We will need to find a balance between being online and being present in our everyday lives, going back to engaging in real conversation and making real eye contact.

New wellness trends are a great indicator of shifts in behaviour in response to current crisis.

Changing our habits and starting self-care routines is necessary for our emotional, mental, physical and spiritual health going into 2021 and beyond.

We need to stay healthy and strong together.

Wishing you health, happiness and heavenly self-care spoils.

With much love as always

Morning Hacks To Get You Out Of Bed (Quickly and Happily)

Slices of peaches in a bowl of oats

The terms quick, happy and easy going would not normally be associated with me and mornings. I need time. Lots of it. I need space. Lots of it. And I need quiet. Lots of it.

It takes a great effort for me to get out of bed. Sometimes like a 30 minute effort. I am the slowest waker upper ever.

So when I tell you I have a whole morning routine (exercise, meditating, gratitude journaling, affirmations, and reading) that I get through before I even start work you best believe that I need the most help with getting myself out of bed and my day started.

If you are like me and in struggle sheets in the morning, here are a few hacks that will get you going quickly and happily.

Morning hacks

* pull down on your earlobes with your fingers and take a deep breath (it will help you wake up)

* drink water (lets the body know you’re awake, hydrates you and helps you along with your morning toilet session)

* march on the spot with high knees (left arm with right leg and right arm with left leg. This gets your energy going.)

* make your bed (gives you a sense that you’ve already accomplished a task for the day. Remember the happiness chemical dopamine?)

* stretch your body

* have a cold shower (or at least alternate between hot and cold)

* eat a healthy breakfast (sets the tone for the day)

Here’s a tip for a healthy breakfast you can prepare the night before.

Selection of nuts on a white background
Selection of nuts

Ingredients for the basic overnight oats

* Oats
* Chia seeds (or any other seeds you have on hand)
* Nut or seed butter (peanut butter, almond butter, sunflower seed butter)
* Milk (whichever best suits you – coconut milk, almond milk)
* Fruit
* Sweetener (honey, dates, maple syrup – this is optional. I personally don’t add in any sweetener)
* For non-vegan you can use yoghurt ( use a combo of milk and yoghurt to make it creamy)

Method

These are the ratios to play with.
* 1/2 cup oats
* 3/4 cup liquid

Add oats to a bowl or sealable jar. Pour in your milk or yoghurt (or mixture of both). Add the nut or seed butter ( amount is as per your taste). Add fruit of your choice, sweetener of your choice and seeds on top. Put it in the fridge overnight and the next morning you’ll have a soft, creamy, yummy AND healthy breakfast to eat.

I love it because it’s so versatile and it will keep you full until lunch time. And there are a number of combinations you can prepare to keep your taste buds happy.

Chopped nuts on a brown board
Eating healthy

For the combinations below, use the basic recipe above and add the ingredients for the different versions.

Chocolate
Leave out the fruit and nut butter and add:
* cocoa powder
* shredded coconut
* almonds

Banana nut
Add in:
* mashed/sliced banana
* cinnamon ( and nutmeg optional)
* walnuts

Carrot cake
Leave out the nut butter and add in:
* grated carrot
* shredded coconut
* pecans
* raisins (optional)

I tried the carrot cake option the other day and it was divine.

Pumpkin
Add in:
* mashed pumpkin (preferably roasted pumpkin)
* cinnamon and nutmeg
* pumpkin seeds
* dried cranberries

Apple cinnamon
Add in:
* chopped apples
* cinnamon

Whatever you can prepare the night before – clothes, bag, breakfast, gym outfit – do it. If you are looking to have a calm morning start, it is better to be over prepared than under.

And if you are curious as to my daily eating plan and how I keep the weight off, I eat oats every single day except maybe on a Saturday where I’ll replace it with an egg breakfast.

If you have any questions or need any help, feel free to reach out to me at anytime.

I’m here as always looking out for you and your health.

How To Be Happy Daily

Women jumping in happiness

Did you know that there are happy brain chemicals that make you feel good? So when you hear people saying, “You are responsible for your own happiness” or “Happiness is a choice”, that dare I say it, is so true.

Did you also know that 37% of people around the world are unhappy? Throw Covid-19 in to the mix and the statistics are probably rising.

What that means is that 1 in 3 people that you know are unhappy with their lives.

That’s quite a number I’d say. Are you one of those people?

If so, there are simple ways to improve your happiness on a daily basis.

Perhaps you’ve already heard of dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins but don’t really know what they are. Well, those are the happy chemicals or happy hormones that the brain releases that make us feel happy.

Each chemical has a job to do and when the brain releases one of these chemicals, you feel good.

By understanding how these chemicals work, we can better improve our overall happiness daily by tapping into each of the four happiness chemicals.

Dopamine

Dopamine enables motivation, learning and pleasure. It gives you the determination to achieve goals, desires, and needs. It’s similar to the “I got it” feeling when you accomplish something.

Do you often procrastinate, have low self-esteem, low energy or fatigue, lack of motivation or enthusiasm, feel anxious or hopeless? Then you are more than likely experiencing a dopamine deficiency.

How To Increase Dopamine Levels Naturally

* meditate regularly (increases dopamine by 65%)
* make a daily to-do list and long term goals
* eat avocado, fish, eggs, cheese, banana and pumpkin seeds
* exercise regularly
* create and play (writing, music, arts and crafts)

Oxytocin

Oxytocin is often called the “cuddle hormone” or “love hormone” because it plays a role in bonding. It gives you a feeling of trust and it motivates you to build intimate relationships and sustain them.

This hormone gives you the desire to stick together with those you trust, which creates a feeling of safety or comfort. It helps your body adapt to different emotional and social situations.

If you feel lonely, stressed, disconnected, anxious or have insomnia it could relate to an oxytocin deficiency.

How To increase Oxytocin Levels Naturally

* eye contact, cuddling, hugging, physical touch
* socializing, connecting with friends and family
* touching your pet
* getting a massage
* acupuncture
* listening to music
* cold showers

Serotonin

When you feel significant or important and get that good feeling, that is serotonin. It is a calm form of confidence and accepting yourself within the people around you.

You could be experiencing a serotonin deficiency if you have low self-esteem, mood swings, are emotionally sensitive, have anxiety and panic attacks, depression, social phobias, insomnia and obsessive compulsive disorder.

How To Increase Serotonin Levels Naturally

* exercise
* sunshine (10 -15 minutes a day/ Vitamin D supplement)
* eat bananas, eggs, omega-3 fish, nuts, seeds, leafy greens and probiotics
* getting a massage
* cold showers

Endorphin

Endorphins release a brief euphoria that masks physical pain. It is a response to pain and stress which also helps alleviate anxiety and depression. Any kind of physical distress can trigger endorphins.

The release of endorphins acts as a natural pain killer and diminishes your perception of pain.

If you feel anxiety, depression, mood swings, aches and pains, insomnia or impulsive behaviour then it could indicate a deficiency in endorphins.

How To increase Endorphin Levels Naturally

* laughter and crying
* creating music or art
* exercise or stretching
* high-intensity interval training
* getting a massage
* meditation

There are plenty of activities that increase happiness hormones naturally. Choose a few that you enjoy doing otherwise it won’t stick.

Consistency is key.

Remember, we are trying to achieve long term happiness so doing an activity once or twice won’t make an impact on your lifestyle.

Benefits of Happiness

Happiness not only plays a part in you feeling good but contributes to improved overall health, improved creativity and problem-solving skills, having more positive relationships with those around you, being able to enjoy life more and get through life challenges easier and being happy with what you have.

Who doesn’t want to be happy daily?

I know I sure do.

So, go on then, pick a few activities, stick to them and you will be on your way to a happier you.

Sending some happiness rays your way.

Is That So?

Sign saying happy holidays with gift wrap and presents laying next to it

Surprise, surprise, here’s a story for you.

The Zen Master Hakuin lived in a village in Japan. He was held in high regard and many people came to him for spiritual teaching. One day the teenage daughter of his neighbour became pregnant.

When she was questioned by her angry parents, she said that Hakuin, the Zen Master was the father.

Cue the screaming, shouting, accusations, bottle throwing etc. No that didn’t really happen but you get the idea? There was lots of drama.

When the parents said he must confess that he is the father, all he replied was, “Is that so?”

Of course news of the scandal spread throughout the village and beyond. The Zen Master lost his reputation and his clients. This did not trouble him, he remained unmoved.

When the child was born the parents of the girl brought the child to him and said, “You are the father, you must look after him.”

The Zen Master took loving care of the child.

A year later, the young girl remorsefully confessed to her parents that the real father of the child was the boy that worked at the butcher shop.

Embarrassed and in great distress they went to Hakuin to apologize and ask for forgiveness. “We are really sorry, we have to take the baby back. Our daughter confessed that you are not the father.”

“Is that so?” is all he would say as he handed the baby back to them.

What is the moral of this story?

The Zen Master did not become a participant in the drama. It did not affect him.

How did he do this?

To him there is only this moment, and this moment is as it is. Events are not personalized and he is nobody’s victim. He did not resist what happened because if you do, you are at the mercy of what happens and the world will determine your happiness or unhappiness.

By only responding to what the present moment requires, the baby is well looked after and bad turns in to good. He lets go of the baby when it is time to do so.

So why on earth am I telling you this story?

Because friends, for some, the festive season is stressful and full of drama. It causes great anxiety. Perhaps it’s because extended family is together and there are triggers and old hurts that come to the fore, perhaps it’s because there’s too much alcohol and loose lips start lashing or perhaps it’s because someone got irritated in the moment and exploded.

Whatever it is, let us proceed in peace and harmony. Let us be at ease. Let us relax and let us have fun.

Let us reply with, “Is that so?”

On that note let me say that I’m unplugging for the month of December and “Is that so?” will be my mantra.

I will be celebrating my birthday, celebrating Christmas and also celebrating the New Year.

I will be slowing down and resting and rejuvenating.

I will also be playing and creating and writing.

There will be plenty of stuff cooking in the kitchen.

Don’t worry, come January I’ll be back with so much more.

As always, I wish you and your families plenty of relaxation, laughter and fun. May you all be at peace and experience much joy.

May love and blessings hug you

Your friend and wellbeing bestie,

A Pre-Holiday Detox? Yes and Here’s Why

Champagne glasses clinking in toast

Oh yes you need to detox before the holidays and I see you rolling your eyes at me. That’s why I’m getting this out early, so you have time to think about it and prepare.

I’m well aware that when the 1st December rolls around all you’ll be thinking about is decorations, parties, gifts, food and of course the holiday drinks.

So before all the excuses start rolling off your tongue let me give you a healthy heads up as to why you should detox before the holidays.

At any other time of the year, when we have our little binges it is normally just a day or two, maybe a few days only. The December holidays signify a much longer period of over-eating, over-indulging and let’s be totally honest, over-drinking. We all tend to go overboard even with the best of intentions in mind.

This gives the body little time to recover let alone digest all that’s been thrown at it.

A pre-holiday detox will boost your immune system and help you stay healthy during the hectic holiday season. It will also help you get out the gates strong for the new year.

And you know me, this is not some insane juice detox nor am I suggesting you starve for 2 weeks before the holiday season starts, these are just gentle tips to introduce one or two weeks before the tsunami hits.

Jug with water and lemon slices
Morning drink

Morning Drink

Start the day with 2 glasses of water with a pinch of salt and lots of lemon. Like a whole lemon kind of lots.

If you must have coffee, limit it to one cup a day. Switch to herbal tea for the rest of the day. Ginger and peppermint are good for digestion. And stay hydrated throughout the day. Remember your 8 glasses of water..

Shower time

Before you shower use a dry brush on your entire body. Start at your feet and use long, circular movements to brush your skin. This will stimulate your lymphatic system to get rid of waste and will exfoliate your skin.

While showering, switch between hot and cold water. Hot for 30 seconds and cold for 30 seconds. Do this for 5 minutes. Better yet, if you can, go for a cold shower. It does wonders for your nervous system and will boost the lymphatic system.

Orange and blueberries
Healthy fruit

Food

Now it gets interesting. Remember this is only for 1 or 2 weeks, you can do this.

Eliminate sugar, dairy, gluten, soy and corn during the detox. These foods can be inflammatory and mucus forming. The next time you think about that sugar, bear in mind that it weakens your immune system for several hours.

Eat lots of fibre (flax, chia seeds and psyllium husk) and go big on salads. Stock up on herbs, especially parsley which helps carry waste out of the blood stream.

Help your gut

Get your gut ready for the heavy holiday meals with a daily dose of probiotics. Bolstering your microbiome in advance can protect against indigestion, heartburn and constipation.

Foods that are high in probiotics are kimchi, tempeh and yoghurt. If you can’t get your hands on that, opt for a high quality supplement.

Move your body

Oh here she goes again. Yes, I can hear you. All you need is a brisk 20 minute walk a day.

That’s it, simple enough, yes? If you really can’t get that in, try a steam room or sauna. Sweating escorts toxins out of the body through the skin.

Sleep

Did you know that your body fixes itself while you sleep? Try to get to bed earlier than normal.

Many studies have shown that the sleep you get before midnight is twice as powerful as sleep after midnight.

Going to bed between 10pm-12am is the best window for sleep and aim for a solid 8 hours. If you have trouble falling asleep at night, try a lavender essential oil to aid in that.

And before you even say anything, I KNOW you can do this. It’s just little tweaks here and there that will give you maximum benefits.

Like you I want to be rolling with laughter during the festive and not with indigestion.

Let’s give it a go.

Shall we?

As always I’m here rooting for you.

How To Get A Grip When You’ve Let Yourself Go

Lady in a blue dress standing near a pool looking very happy

And I’m not even a fan of this term, ‘letting yourself go’ because to be honest I’ve been an expert at it.

It’s bad enough that I know it, but how rude and offensive that anybody else should notice it too.

I know all too well the struggles of working on myself to get to a point of being a better version of me; happy and hopeful and helluva hot only to ‘let myself go’.

Why did I do it?

Because I gave up too easily and convinced myself that you only live once and who would it hurt anyway to have another slice of cake or another helping of fries.

That’s what I used to tell myself.

And you know what happened?

Another slice of cake and more fries would become crispy wings and waffles with syrup and what about a juicy burger and a pizza or two.

Who would it hurt?

Yes indeed. Not me. No of course not.

Then I would look at myself in the mirror a few months or even a year down the line and be shocked because I had no idea I was letting myself go (please read getting fat)

I would shout at my family because they never told me and I couldn’t see it. (Side note: they did tell me. Apparently letting yourself go is akin to being deaf and blind as well)

Cue the guilt, shame, crashing self esteem, crying, cursing, embarrassment and tantrums. I would want to flush the idea of being healthy down the bloody drain.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Yes I thought so.

And believe me I know it feels like too much of a mountain to climb to snatch it all back because you are well aware that it’s going to take work, and worse yet, some self discipline.

I even toyed with the idea of staying fat and fabulous but tragically for me, my body wouldn’t allow it. It kept breaking down and it kept getting sick. It was screaming, “Get off your fat ass and do something about this”. (My father would say that too)

And so alas, I did just that but with a promise that I would never let myself go again. I was done with that feeling of hopelessness.

And you can be too.

Wanna know how?

Well stay with me now.

First you have to acknowledge it.

This was the toughest part for me. I didn’t want to look at myself and feel like a failure, again. I didn’t want to see that I was in a cycle of letting myself go, again. I didn’t want to acknowledge that I forgot to love myself, again.

And let me tell you, those 3 rolls of fat on my back were staring back at me and tormenting me. So defiant and so bitchy, like I dare you to get rid of us. Just you try it.

To quote Tony Robbins, “Identify your problems but give your power and energy to solutions”.

I had to acknowledge that the fat was a physical manifestation of all the emotional baggage that I was carrying with me. In essence, by refusing to deal with my emotional issues, I was in fact letting myself go physically.

The emotional issues were growing bigger and bigger in a physical form.

Once I understood where I was, I knew where I wanted to go.

A lady in a pink dress looking out over the ocean
In Thailand 2018

Next, you have to offer up forgiveness and love.

You HAVE to be KIND to YOURSELF. I can’t stress this enough.

If a friend came to you in despair and said “I feel like a failure. I’m so lost and feel so helpless, what would you say to them?”

Would you say, “You’re so worthless, nobody cares about you”

Of course not.

So why say that to yourself then?

Treat yourself with care, compassion and forgiveness like you would your best friend.

Kick all the judgement out the front door.

Make a plan and get real about it

I knew that in the beginning, trying to exercise and eat healthy was going to be too much for me. I can only focus on one thing at a time. I made my focus food. That was me being real.

You know yourself and what makes YOU feel overwhelmed. Choose one thing to focus on in the beginning and just stick to that.

I know you didn’t ask for my opinion but I would suggest it be food. I am a firm believer in the 80/20 rule, 80% diet and 20% exercise.

Have fun and laugh along the way

If you can do this everything else just seems to click into place.

Don’t try to force anything otherwise you’ll find yourself back in the cycle after a while. Find a form of exercise that gives you joy or will make you laugh. I can’t dance but I do Zumba every now and then just for fun.

Be light in spirit when it comes to your health. It’s not a chore or something to dread.

So you let yourself go but haven’t we all at some point.

It’s time to get a grip. It’s time to be honest. It’s time to have some fun.

Don’t let the rolls, the emotional baggage or the supposed mountain to climb intimidate you.

You are in control and you got this.

I’m here for you, as always.

Happy and hopeful.

P.S. I’m very good at dishing out instructions. If you need me to tell you to get off your fat ass and do something about this, just holla.

A Healthy Way To Start Your Day

Tumeric tea in a cup on a table

Why this golden latte is good for you

AND it’s quick and easy to make.

Like all golden lattes, there’s one key ingredient to give this drink it’s sunny colour: turmeric.

Now I don’t know about you but when I was growing up all I knew about turmeric was that it made rice yellow and all the aunties were using it to make a good curry. I kind of looked down on it.

When I heard that it had health benefits I was floored. So those aunties were on to something afterall.

Turmeric is an immune-supporting spice (see here for a full rundown), and its active component, curcumin, can manage inflammation at the cellular level. In plain English, it’s very very good for you.

If you add that in with spices like cinnamon and cardamom (great for antioxidants), you’ve got a magical morning potion. And don’t we all love magic potions in the morning?

Salt, black pepper, tumeric, cinnamon on a spoon
Variety of spices

Ingredients:
1 can Coconut milk
1 Tbsp turmeric
Pinch of black pepper (to enhance absorption)
Drizzle of honey
Pinch of cardamom
Pinch of cinnamon

Method:
Bring the coconut milk to a simmer on the stove.
Mix in the turmeric and black pepper once it gets warm (be careful not to burn the mixture).
Take it off the heat and add in your honey, cardamom and cinnamon.
Sprinkle in as much (or as little) flavour as you please.

Now I can hear one of my sisters screaming in the background that she doesn’t like coconut milk. That’s ok, use whatever milk you like: almond, oat, normal, it’s totally up to you.

If you are looking to boost your immune system first thing in the morning, give it a go.

I’m just here looking out for you, as always.

Let me know how it goes.

Happy sipping.

Foods That Make You Glow

Pouring olive oil from a bottle

Let’s talk about foods that make you glow AND get you looking at yourself naked in the mirror and going “Hot damn, you’re looking good.”

I’ve been hearing a lot about this lately. How being connected to your sexuality is empowering and to be honest, that is really what this is all about.

Whether you’re stripping down for yourself or for someone else, looking good naked means feeling sexy. And no, you’re never too old to feel sexy.

Below are some of the best foods to eat to give you that extra glow AND make you look sexy naked.

Collagen

Collagen = good hair, good skin and good nudes (and no, this does not mean dick pics gents, please no)

It helps strengthen hydration and elasticity of the skin, which means tighter skin and fewer wrinkles.

Mango

Did you know that the stress hormone cortisol creates belly fat and keeps it stored there? Adding Vitamin C to your diet helps combat the stress hormones.

Mango is rich in Vitamin C and is also known to have high levels of vitamin B-6, which supplies your brain with dopamine, the feel “happy hormone.”

Olive Oil

Have you seen how the people in the Mediterranean look so glowy and live for so long? They drizzle olive oil on EVERYTHING.

Olive oil has vitamin E and K, lots of antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Healthy fat = glow.

Nettle Leaf

Now this I’m excited about. Inflammation is the buzzword of the health industry at the moment.

It’s been suggested that it’s the cause of bags under your eyes and water retention, which by the way sometimes masks extra weight that you’re carrying.

Nettle leaf is a herb and is a natural diuretic that flushes out acid from your joints and muscles and helps detoxify your whole system.

Lean Protein

Have you heard those healthy types always talking about lean protein? Well, they’re doing it because they know something we don’t. It leaves you feeling energized (lighter) and fuller for longer.

If you were getting excited about seeing protein on this list, then take special note that it needs to be a small portion, as in smaller than your vegetables and leafy greens.

And there you have it. Go on and get your glow friends and enjoy that sexy vision staring back at you in the mirror.

With much love and some extra glow
